The shelving of the Kalabagh Dam project is a great tragedy for Pakistan. It has been almost 55 years since its initiation but our governments have failed to start its development due to internal disputes. If we look at India, it has built almost 14 power stations on River Chenab and has efficiently used its water. Our government, despite seeing the potential of this great project, has failed to unite our country and resolve the dispute on it. The Kalabagh Dam would have been a great source of electricity generation but we failed to look upon that aspect of the project and took into account only the negativities. -MUHAMMAM MUSTAFA, via e-mail, May 30.
