LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa along with his cabinet would resign today to pave way for election of PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif to take control of province's affairs. Shahbaz would take oath as MPA, as Punjab Assembly is meeting here today at 9 am for the purpose.  Though Khosa would resign, but according to the Constitution, Governor Salman Taseer would ask him to continue working as the CM till election of the new chief executive of the province. Shahbaz is all set to be elected as Punjab CM by the provincial assembly on June 8 (Sunday). According to earlier schedule, he was to be elected Punjab CM on June 9 (Monday). He would take oath of his office the same day and form his new cabinet, which would consist of the present ministers. Meanwhile, Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that Shahbaz Sharif will take oath as a member of provincial assembly Punjab Assembly in the Assembly session being held on Friday (today). He said Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa would tender his resignation as Punjab Chief Minister the same day. He said the PML-N would submit the nomination papers of Shahbaz as new CM Punjab on June 7 and he would be elected as new CM Punjab on June 8 and would take oath of his office at Governor House. Sanaullah was briefing newsmen at CM House after PML-N and allied parties' joint parliamentary meeting here on Thursday. He said the reservations against Salman Taseer as Governor Punjab had reduced to nothing. Therefore, Shahbaz would take oath at Governor House. He said that 22 nomination papers including 10 from PML-N, 10 from PPP and one each from MMA and Functional League would be submitted for Shahbaz. He said that joint parliamentary meeting did not discuss the constitutional package rather it deliberated over the strategy for the election of Shahbaz as new CM Punjab. He said that there was no major difference between PPP and PML-N on the reinstatement of judges. The minister commended the PPP government for paying the salaries of deposed judges. "The step shows that PPP is sincere in the restoration of judges," he concluded. Meanwhile, Senior Provincial Minister Raja Riaz Ahmad, while congratulating President PML-N Sahabaz Sharif on having been elected unopposed MPA from Bhakkar, has said that Shahbaz will be the joint Chief Minister of PPP and PML-N and will have full confidence of both the parties. He expressed these views while addressing a Press conference held at Irrigation Headquarters here on Thursday. Provincial ministers belonging to PPP in the Punjab Cabinet Farooq Ghurki, Haji Muhammad Ishaq, Tanveer Ashraf Kaira, Muhammad Asharaf Sohna, Dr Tanveerul Islam and Neelam Jabbar were also present on the occasion. He said the PPP got him elected unopposed by withdrawing nomination papers of its candidate from Bhakkar. He said that after assuming the office of Chief Minister, People's Party would extend its full cooperation to Shahbaz Sharif as has been extended to Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa. Raja Riaz said that like in the centre, the coalition government of both the parties would run successfully in Punjab. He said that at present the cabinet was not being extended and the extension will be made after the budget. He said that whole PPP parliamentary party would lend full support to the Muslim League-N. Raja Riaz said the PPP had rendered great sacrifices for democracy and it is our common agenda to make Pakistan a prosperous country. He disclosed that consultation with PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari regarding some ministries in Punjab was in progress and the decision will be made after the budget. Replying to a question, he said that new dams would be constructed after taking all provinces into confidence. However, the Provincial Irrigation Department will construct five small dams in Punjab to overcome water shortage. He said the government was endeavouring to solve power crisis so that people could get rid of loadshedding on permanent basis.
