ISLAMABAD - Over 200 daily-wage teaching and non-teaching employees of schools and colleges blocked the entrance of Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to demand the release of their blocked salaries for the past four months.
The employees including female teachers sat at the entrance of the FDE office for around five hours blocking the entry of FDE officials and the visitors. 
'Nearly 1200 junior lady teachers, lecturers and lower grade non-teaching staff hired on daily wages for schools and colleges have not been paid for the past four months', said Ehsanullah Bangash, a teacher from Islamabad Model College for Boys (IMCB) F-8/4.
'A number of daily-wagers have been serving in colleges at a meager salary ranging from Rs7,000 to Rs10,000 a month. The lower-grade staff's salaries range from Rs.2000 to Rs.8000. Now their salaries are stopped for many months and it is becoming difficult for them to run their day today affairs,' he said.
The daily-wage staff of schools and colleges have been protesting since May 5 for the release of salaries and regularisation and staged sit-in at D-Chowk. Later, they had called off the protest after successful talks with the Capital Administration and Development (CADD) Secretary Faridullah Khan.
'The Secretary had assured the salary release and to issue joining letters to the employees as per the availability of the vacant posts. But even the directives of the Secretary did not move the FDE officials who have not been able to clear the objections raised by AGPR on the file of their salaries due to red tape,' the protesting employees complained. 
The case was being pursued with the AGPR and pay bills have been prepared. Hopefully within a couple of days their salaries will be released, said FDE Spokesperson Nadeem Ashraff.
'Actually the illegal assumption of charge of FDE DG office by Dr. Shehnaz A Riaz has aggravated the issues. The case of DG appointment is in court and until the court announces its verdict things will remain confusing'.
