‘Govt to solve newspaper industry’s problems’

LAHORE - Principal Information Officer (PIO) Rao Tehsin Ali Khan has said that government is cognizant of the problems being faced by the newspaper industry and measures are being taken to resolve them.

Addressing the executive committee meeting of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), the PIO said the government was not indifferent to print media. It was as important as any other form of media in society.

Tehsin urged print media owners to pay the outstanding dues of workers so that they could contribute in nation building diligently.  He said that the government was also working on the mechanism of implementation of the wage board.  Executive committee ensured the PIO that the issues related to payment of workers would be settled down very soon. Matters related to press freedom and access to information were also discussed in the meeting.  The meeting was attended by APNS President Sarmad Ali, Umar Shami, Munir Jilani, Zia Shahid, DG PID Ijaz Hussain and others.
