This is with reference to reports about massive irregularities, illegal occupation of private and state land by powerful Land Mafia of this country. There is a need for free media to reveal facts in public interest, rather than succumb to pressure of advertisement which has shackled a large part of print and electronic media, who shamefully project land mafia dons as philanthropists, instead of exposing them.

Every government has deliberately ignored Quaid-e-Azam’s warning, who while addressing members of Constituent Assembly on 11 August 1947 stated, that “One of the biggest curses from which India is suffering is bribery and corruption, that really is a poison. We must put that down with an iron hand”. The British Raj had deliberately corrupted the local bureaucracy by allotting them lands to buy their loyalties, a precedent which they had abolished in UK ever since democracy had taken root.

The irregularities in Bahria Karachi, DHA Valley Islamabad etc., could not be committed without the nexus of government officers, law enforcement, land revenue and other powerful state institutions. Insatiable greed of those for whom Pakistan is just a convenient financial transit stopover to mint billions, and transfer their money for investment through offshore companies has blinded them to damage done to environment and diminishing agriculture green belts around periphery of every major city, replacing them with concrete jungles. The expanding population faces prospects of lesser crop production, famine and accompanying disastrous consequences such as rise in crime, terrorism and chaos which would destroy this country from within.

Those who have chosen to live and die in Pakistan must stand up and protect their children and grandchildren from disaster that is around corner.
