KHYBER AGENCY - As many as 60 racers from across the country took part in the first ever ‘Political Agent Jeep Rally’ organized at Torkham border of Landi Kotal Khyber Agency on Sunday. 

The event comprised of two parts was organized under the auspices of political administration Khyber Agency.

In first portion all the participants joined flag march from Torkham border to Bab-e-Khyber in Jamrud tehsil while in the second phase the racers competed in race started from Basey check post, Bara tehsil while crossing the areas of Aka Khel, Malikdin Khel, Sipah and Shlobar and returned back to the check post measuring 100 kilometres. 

Babar clinched first position while Shakeel Barqi remained runner up in the race.

Chief Secretary, Amjad Ali Khan who was the chief guest on the occasion awarded a prize of motorcar to winner and gave Rs 200,000 cash to runner up. 

Earlier, in this connection a colourful program was set up at Torkham border that was attended by Political Agent (PA) Khyber, Khalid Mehmood, Deputy Inspector General Frontier Corps, Brigd Qaisar Mahy, Member National Assembly Haji Shahjee Gul Afridi, Assistant Political Agent, Landi Kotal Rahim Mehsud, scores of tribal elders and notables made ensure their presence in the gathering.

Speaking on the occasion, PA Khalid Mehmood said that they want to get engaged the tribesmen in extra-curriculum activities so that to divert their attention towards healthy programs.

He said they were trying their level best to convey massage that tribal areas were on the track of development.

The administration is committed to arrange such events at school and college level.

Meanwhile, the Pak-Afghan border was closed down for all sorts of movement for some hours while the traffic on busy Pak-Afghan route from Karkhano Market to Torkham border was also suspended.
