GUJRANWALA-The police have launched a crackdown on kite and string manufacturers and sellers, day after a young man was killed when a kite string cut his throat.

The Punjab chief minister took notice of the incident while City Police Officer has suspended Satellite Town Police SHO Tariq Mehmood over his failure to check kite-flying in his jurisdiction.

The Satellite Town Police have registered a case against unidentified kite-flyers on the application of Naeem, brother of deceased Ehtisham.

According to FIR, both the brothers were going on a motorcycle when string of a stray kite cut the throat of Ehtisham near Pondanwala Chowk. He was rushed to DHQ Hospital where he breathed his last.

On the other hand, the police have arrested five persons for selling kites and confiscated dozens of kites along with huge quantity of twine from their possession here on Sunday. They were identified as Khawar, Mehran, Sadam, Rizwan and Mohsin and cases have been registered against them.

CPO Waqas Nazir said that the crackdown on kite manufacturers and flyers would be intensified to avoid loss of life as many people had lost their lives to kite string. He said strict action would be taken against the SHOs concerned if any violation of kite-flying ban is reported from their jurisdiction.
