The speakers said that the day is held each year and is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations (UN) stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment.

The day promotes ways to improve the earth’s environment, such as conserving forests. World Environment Day is celebrated in many ways in all countries of the world.

Activities include street rallies and parades, as well as concerts, tree planting, and clean-up campaigns. It is celebrated to make aware the common public about the environmental issues.

World Environment Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. Another resolution, adopted by the General Assembly the same day, led to the creation of UNEP.
