DERA GHAZI KHAN: Because of old service structure and poor control and command system, the culture of illegal gratification still persists in the Border Military Police (BMP).

BMP administration seems to be helpless to control the corruption and malpractices of personnel.

Residents of tribal area of DG Khan along with transporters of inter provincial route, that is supervised by BMP, have become hopeless and disappointed due to corruption of the personal. That is why, most of victims have established complaints in the courts against BMP personnel. Yaqoob, son of Haji Manzoor and resident of Sakhi Sawar Town, lodged a complaint with the office of Punjab Ombudsman Punjab DG Khan against Shahzada Kaloi, Daffidar BMP.

Facts stated in the complaint are that the complainant installs shops every year in the bed of Sakhi Sarwar hill torrent on the occasion of Urs of Hazrat Syed Ahmad Sultan, popularly known as Sakhi Sarwar, and annual fair. He paid Rs70,000 as bribe to Mr Shahzada Kaloi to allow him setting up shops which are rented out by the complainant to the shopkeepers. The amount of illegal gratification was given in the presence of Ghulam Sarwar and Rashid Ali. However, Shahzada Kaloi did not allow the complainant to install shops though so many other shopkeepers were allowed to establish shops there. The complainant also alleged that Shahzada Kaloi patronises sale of narcotics in the area and is involved in drugs smuggling.

After necessary process of a complaint, Punjab Ombudsman Javed Mahmood directed Commandant BMP to complete the departmental Inquiry and reach conclusion in the wake of fair probe.

The court also directed the complainant that may pursue his application in the office of Director of Anti-Corruption Establishment DG Khan who shall also hold an independent and fair probe into allegations against the accused. When approached, Shahzada Kaloi denied all allegations. Due to security reasons, complainant was not allowed to set up shops there, he said. He added that the complainant was taking revenge of personal enmity because many criminal cases were registered against him with BMP Post Sakhi Sarwar.–Staff reporter
