I am sure we are all stunned by excess of outrage at what we saw of police atrocity against our people on a private channel last night. I do not know from where to begin and what to say? In the 21st century, we have this law of the jungle being applied to our public? I am glad that the Inspector General Police has offered a personal apology to the public over this ugly incident and am sure that he must have probably went personally to the concerned police station. My plea to him, and the government would be to not let this reported incident pass lightly. This is an opportunity for the report to be called in, as per the usual procedure and once the report, corroborated by the TV footage, comes to his table, he should devise exemplary punishment for these policemen who had beaten up their hapless victims with the rubber-lashing (Chittre) in full public view and on camera. The DPO/SSP of the area should also be taught a lesson for his ignorance. -AMJAD HABIB MIRZA, Lahore, March 4.
