Naek asks bureaucracy to shun colonial mindset

ISLAMABAD (APP) Chairman Senate Farooq H. Naek has called upon the senior bureaucracy to shun red tapism and colonial mindset and instead try to redouble their efforts for achieving good governance through promoting efficiency and transparency. Talking to participants of the 92nd National Management Course, who called on him at the Parliament House on Friday, he said efforts were being made to enact good laws in the Parliament with a view to ensuring good governance in the country. The bureaucracy is an important institution, which has to keep pace with the march of times and must make efforts for a neat, clean and efficient administration, he said. He said that bureaucracy was also the most cherished desire and dream of every democratic government in the country. He observed that the Parliament was not a debating club rather it was the shrine of democracy and central institution. Referring towards committees of the Parliament, he said those were the effective vehicles of ensuring parliamentary oversight of the executive and redressal of public grievances. We believe in serving the masses, who have chosen us to represent them in the Parliament, he added. Earlier, while dilating upon the role and functions of the Senate he observed that the main purpose behind creation of the Upper House was to accord equal representation to all the federating units and the Senate had over the years emerged as stabilizing factor in the federation. He said today the country had an elected President, elected Parliament and vocal Opposition.
