ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is likely to decide about extension in the service to COAS General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, sources informed on Friday. Well-placed sources informed TheNation on Friday that President Zardari had decided to leave the important matter for PM Gilani to decide about it. It was learnt that the President had exposed his intentions before the key party colleagues that he 'would not consider the matter if even asked at some stage. However, despite several attempts the Presidents Spokesman Farhatullah Babar was not available for his input. It was learnt that the PM had been inclined from the very outset that the incumbent Army Chief deserved extension in interest of the country and for his extraordinary role in the war on terror. Informed sources said that there was greater likelihood that the PM would grant extension to the Army Chief after getting the powers of the chief executive as result of 18th constitutional amendment. General Kayani, who played critical role in the war against terror, is due to retire later this year from the Army.
