Package sought for rain-hit areas

LAKKI MARWAT - Residents of Khankhel Mandozai have demanded of the provincial government to order the quarters concerned for launching a survey of rain-related losses in the village and approve a compensation package for these areas.
In a statement on Tuesday, they said that recent rains caused had losses to the lands and other infrastructure in the village.
‘The last week spell of heavy downpour also damaged streets and badly impacted the villagers”, they told.
They said that the government should order local authorities concerned to collect data of rain related losses and submit a report to this effect to high authorities concerned. They also demanded of the government to approve a compensation package for the affected villagers.

Meanwhile, a local committee consisting of elders from Abdulkhel and Masha Mansoor villages held a meeting here to discuss problems faced by residents of several villages and hamlets.
Haji Mashal Khan presided over the meeting wherein the elders flayed the performance of lawmakers because of their inattention towards removing the genuine grievances of rural population. Elders said that residents of Masha Mansoor, Abdulkhel, Kuttikhel, Illaualkhel and Wanda Banochi were confronted with numerous problems since long.
They severely criticised local MPs and accused them of ignoring rural areas of their constituencies in uplift share. They said that the elected representatives had neglected water supply and sanitation, electrification and other sectors subjecting the villagers to face shortage of basic amenities of life.
“The power transformers are out of order in several villages of both union councils causing troubles for the local people”, they disclosed.
“The government should pay special attention to the major public health issue as it can cause prevalence of disease in both union councils”, they told.
They asked local and higher authorities concerned to equip Wanda Banochi village with a 25KV electricity transformer and drinking water facility.
