ISLAMABAd - The Spectrum Auction Advisory Committee on Wednesday noted that government is all set to hold the auction of 3G and 4G telecom licences next month (April), as all timelines given to complete the process are being followed.
The Spectrum Auction Advisory Committee, which held under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, has reviewed the process of auction of 3G and 4G telecom licences.  The government had announced to hold the auction of 3G and 4G telecom licences next month (April), which would generate minimum $1.6 billion to the national kitty. Finance Minister had claimed in its press conference last month that revenue from auctioning 3G and 4G would go beyond the level of $1.6 billion on the completion of the auction process.
The government will offer three licences for the third generation telecom (3x10 MHz licences in the 2100MHz spectrum band) at minimum base price of $295 million each. Similarly, auction of two licences of 4G (2x10MHz paired spectrum in 1800 MHz band) would be offered at base price of $210 million each. According to official handout, Secretary Ministry of Information Technology Akhlaq Tarrar briefed the Committee on the progress made so far on the auction of licences. He informed the Committee that all the timelines given to complete the process are being followed. He also informed the Committee that a Turkish Telephone Company Turk Cell will be visiting Islamabad for due diligence in this regard. The Finance Minister emphasised that the whole process should be completed with transparency and diligently. He expressed his satisfaction over the progress made so far. He expressed the hope that PTA will conduct competitive auction for deployment of next generation mobile network. He concluded that with the introduction of new technology the local telecom industry will benefit from transfer of technology and users will also have new features.
Ms Anusha Rehman Minister of State Information Technology, Dr Waqar Masood, Finance Secretary, Rana Assad Amin, Advisor to Finance Ministry and senior officials of Ministries of Information Technology and Finance also attended the meeting.
