A seminar was held to observe International Women’s Day in the Jinnah Hall where speakers said that no other religion but Islam has provided equality to women.

Addressing the seminar, MPA Asadullah Arain said that legislation had been made at provincial and national level for empowerment of women which, he said, would go a long way in the social and economic progress of women. He particularly referred to Women Empowerment Package 2012. He also told the gathering that Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif had ordered to strictly implement right of inheritance to the women and enacted rules for taking stern action and rigorous imprisonment for acid throwing incidents and harassment of women.

He said that no other society or religion has provided equality to women as Islam and called upon them to inculcate courage among the women to get their due rights. He called upon the women to play their pivotal role to make the society strong morally and economically. He adding that no society can survive without the active participation of women.

On the occasion, DCO Mansoor Qadir said that Islam provides honourable status to mothers, daughters, sisters and wives and stressed a need for creating women’s awareness of get their rights guaranteed in the constitution. He referred to the right of inheritance to the women provided in Islam. He said that the present government was also striving to empower women by by providing equal opportunities, promoting female education, fixation of quota for women in services and establishment Dar-ul-Aman, Shelter Home and other social welfare institutions.

Female students, teachers and members of NGOs also addressed the seminar and appreciated the steps being taken by the present government for the empowerment of women. Later, a walk was organised to create awareness in this regard.
