Police bust auto theft gang

Rawalpindi - Police have busted an auto theft gang by arresting four of its members and recovered several stolen motorcycles from their possession, sources informed The Nation on Thursday.
A case has been filed against the accused while further investigation was underway. A meeting was also held in SP Potohar Division Office during which it was decided to present the arrested accused before media in upcoming days, sources mentioned.
According to sources, Race Course police during a raid had nabbed four members of a gang involved in stealing motorcycles from the city and recovered stolen motorcycles from their possession.
The police locked all the accused in police station and started investigation, sources added. Those arrested by police identified as Ijaz Khan, Hassan, Navid Abbasi and a 17-year-old boy, whose name could not be ascertained.
Sources confided that during investigation police had also seized a piece of glass from belt of trouser of the 17-years-old accused who told police that he had planned to cut his tongue in cell and accuse police of torturing him before court. Sources said that police were hiding the arrests of the arrested gang members.  
Nonetheless, Station House Officer (PS) Race Course Malik Yousaf, while talking to The Nation, confirmed the arrest of the only one gang member namely Navid Abbasi hails from Murree. He said that a case was registered against him while police would produce him today (Friday) before a court of law for obtaining physical remand. Meanwhile, the law enforcement agencies conducted a search operation within the limits of police stations Airport and Civil Line to purge the localities from suspects and anti-social elements.
According to police spokesman, the LEAs during operation checked 84 houses and interrogated some 175 people in the jurisdiction of PS Civil Line whereas 111 houses and 811 people came under police scanner in the limits of PS Airport.
