ISLAMABAD - Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Riaz Pirzada has said that the upcoming meeting of Council of Common Interests (CCI) will not touch the population census, as the matter is pending till the completion of ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb at Shawal valley.

“It depends upon the completion of Zarb-e-Azb operation, which in Shawal area will likely to be completed before September,” said Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Riaz Pirzada while talking to The Nation.

The upcoming meeting will only focus on Kachi Kanal and some other matters but this issue will not be touched upon.

The draft for population census has prepared and now the final nod from army will help in initiating this population in the country. “Population census matter has been decided in the previous meeting. Final draft for conducting census in one go has been decided,” said the minister.

The Pakistan Army had launched its final phase of operation Zarb-e-Azb to go after the terrorists still holed up in the strategic valley. Shawal valley in Datta Khel tehsil is situated on the confluence of borders between North and South Waziristan tribal regions. This valley also shares a border with neighbouring Afghanistan.

Sources said that the IPC ministry had been asked to prepare another draft for population census by properly mentioning the required strength for army.
