islamabad - The National Disaster Management Authority has decided to conduct a simulation exercise to check efficacy of contingency plans and to coordinate response in case of industrial accidents.

In this regard a meeting was held in NDMA headquarters, presided over by Chairman NDMA Major General Asghar Nawaz. The mock exercise will be held at Dharki in last week of March for rescue and relief in a contingency of industrial accident.

Representatives from Engro Fertilizers and Fauji Fertilizer briefed regarding existing safety measures in place at their respective facilities including contingency plans, crisis management system and training being provided to employees and locals of the area.

The chairman NDMA informed that NDMA is following a pro-active approach towards disaster response and exercises are imperative to enhance response capacity of all stakeholders in order to minimize damage. He further stated that due to rapid urbanization and population growth, local residents living near industrial areas have become more vulnerable to such disasters.

Representatives from Pakistan Army, Navy, district administration Ghotki, Civil Defence Sindh and senior officials from NDMA attended the meeting.
