ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) decided to hold seven national squash events in a row aiming to provide maximum opportunities to upcoming talented players to excel at national level in the absence of international competitions at home. According to an official of the PSF, Pakistan was holding 5 to 6 international squash tournaments every year in Pakistan with handsome prize money from US$ 12000 to 80,000. However, due to security fears, the foreign players are not willing to visit Pakistan for international competitions under the certification of Professionals' Squash Association (PSA) but federation decided to hold national men's and women's events in the different squash centres of the country. Meanwhile, the PSA has temporarily suspended squash tournaments for the time being in Pakistan and the registration of a couple of PSA tournaments including Chief of Army Staff (COAS) International, which was planned in April and President PSF International in May this year 2009, has not been done because of the security concerns. The PSF is in continuous touch with PSA and convincing them for seeking permission for holding PSA's event in Pakistan in near future. The COAS Open Squash Championship for men's and women's will be kicked off from May 9 at Mushaf Squash Complex Islamabad, as initially it was international fixture with the prize money of US$25, 000. Now, it will be played under the supervision of Punjab Squash Association with the prize money of Rs.500 thousands till May 15 in the premises of Pakistan Sports Complex. The National Junior Squash Championship will be organized from May 13 to 17 at Peshawar in which the teenagers boys and girls will be featuring in the Under-11 and Under-13 age categories competitions, as the prize money will be Rs.50,000. Later, Chief of Air Staff (CAS) National Junior Squash Championship will be organized from May 20 to 25, 2009 at same venue and competitions will be held in Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 age categories. Rs.400,000 will be disbursed amongst the top performers. The NWFP National Squash Championship will be organized in the 2nd week of June, 2009 at Abbottabad while Punjab Open Squash Championship for men's and women's will be held from July 4-9, 2009 at Lahore. Punjab National Junior Squash Championship will be staged from July 11 to 17, 2009 at Lahore for Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 age categories players. Director General Rangers National Junior Squash Championship will be organized from July 20 - 25, 2009 at Karachi in which national junior players will compete in Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 age categories events.
