LAHORE -Federal Minister for Pakistan Railways (PR) Khawaja Saad Rafique has said the department was taking steps to use the potential of railway land for its improvement.

Talking to media here at NESPAK on Monday,he said that matters pertaining to upgradation of railway stations were discussed in the meeting with MD NESPAK Amjad A Khan and other members.

Under Phase I, the minsiter said five railway stations would be upgraded including those of Narowal, Hassan Abdal,Okara,Sahiwal and Nankana.

Khawaja Saad Rafique said that upgradation of railwaystations would add value to the cities and enhance commercial opportunities for the people.He said that food courts, hotels, amusement parks would be build to facilitate people.  The minister said that business, industry and others aspects of the railway station sites had been evaluated.  “No recommendation regarding increase in fares was under consideration”, he added.

He said that performance of PR would improve with the addition of 40 locomotives. He said that punctuality of trains had improved and work on all areas including improvement of tracks would be done stepwise for overall enhancement of PR output. PR GM Operations Anjum Pervaiz was also present.
