ISLAMABAD - While the Army Chief ordered an inquiry into the death of MQM worker Aftab Ahmed, Muttahida is also expecting to have its missing workers recovered and presented in courts.

The army chief, on the request of MQM, has recently ordered an inquiry into the death of MQM worker Aftab Ahmed who, according to the party, was killed in the custody of Rangers.

The recently issued autopsy report of Aftab Ahmed has no words on the actual cause of the death that could be ascertained by chemical report.

Talking to The Nation, MQM’s Ali Raza Abidi said that MQM will raise strong protest in and outside the parliament about atrocities against party members. “Yes, we will stage strong protest in and outside the parliament,” said the MQM leader.

About MQM’s further demand, he said they want the government and judiciary to take notice for external investigation in addition to the internal committees formed by the army chief.

When asked about MQM’s missing persons’ issue, he said that MQM has also demanded of the Army Chief to have their missing workers recovered.

“Their missing workers be recovered and presented in the courts and punish those who have killed our 56 workers since 2013,” said the MQM’s senior member.

MQM has time and again raised the matter of their missing persons in and outside the parliament. The party members have staged walkouts from National Assembly (NA), Senate and Sindh Assembly (SA) over the issue of their missing party workers.

MQM lawmakers last year had resigned from parliament with 19-point charge-sheet including no action from the government on their party’s missing persons.

The missing persons’ commission, headed by Justice (R) Javed Iqbal, had also conducted probe of MQM’s missing persons but the compiled report was so far not made public.

MQM had also recently submitted in the Supreme Court a list of its missing workers of which 100 have been missing since January,2016.

MQM’s Senator Atiqur Rehman had submitted a detailed report, accusing the paramilitary Rangers of picking up most of their workers from their residences in different parts of the country. This list also contains all particulars of the individuals, including their identities, residential addresses and places from where they were picked up.
