PESHAWAR - The Terms of Reference (ToR) prepared by the opposition parties are actually against the PM Nawaz Sharif and his family, not against corruption, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal said. It is now crystal clear that the opposition wants to use it for political purposes, Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal said on Thursday.

Talking to media persons here at Islamia College University, Ahsan Iqbal rejected opposition’s ToR on Panama Leaks issue and said that they were not against the corruption.

It reflected the true picture of the opposition parties that they were not concerned about the corruption, he said.

He said the opposition wanted to get political mileage out of the so called ToRs, adding that prime minister cannot be blamed as his name was not mentioned in list of Panama leaks.

Ahsan Iqbal said that present government was focusing across the board development in the country and announcement of international airport in Bannu and Lakki Marwat University by the PM was reflection of his commitment.

The common man was not concerned with the Panama Papers rather he wanted solution of their basic problems, Ahsan said.

The federal government has multiplied the higher educational budget from Rs 48 billion to record increase of Rs 78 billion, he said, adding that three new universities would be set up each in FATA, Zoab and Gawadar.

During his one-day visit to Peshawar, Ahsan Iqbal also visited various historic places of the Islamia College University that was built as college back in 1913 by Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Khan and took keen interest in its architectural designs of the building and appreciated the role played by its students during Pakistan Movement and later in the development of the country.

Addressing a seminar on “The  China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)-Myth and Reality” organized by Ministry of Planning and Development, National Reforms Islamabad and Islamia College Peshawar (ICP) held at Roose Keppel Hall of the collage, the federal minister said that he was ready for dialogues on  China Pakistan Economic Corridor with everyone at any forum.

He said that Pakistan has always been facing international conspiracies, while the challenge of huge population should be changed into opportunities. The  China Pakistan Economic Corridor is the future of Pakistan and the  China Pakistan Economic Corridor would change the fate of the region.

He said that Pakistan would become world’s 4th populated country in 2037. Vision 2025 has been compiled while keeping the global competitiveness in view, strongest economy is required for development of any country while Pakistan could be included in world’s 25 strongest economies of the world in next 10 years, he said.

The  China Pakistan Economic Corridor project is a Chinese gift for the Pakistani nation.

He stressed the need for national harmony to complete this project of vital importance in time. Ahsan Iqbal said instead of hollow slogans, the present government is making sincere efforts to put the country on the path of rapid development and progress.

He said, “We should focus on education and research to include Pakistan in the list of the developed nations.”

He added that there is need for a political coherence for its successful execution. He alleged that some people are trying to make the  China Pakistan Economic Corridor controversial but they would not be succeeded in meeting their nefarious designs.
