Zardari orders withdrawal of petitions against MQM

KARACHI - On the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari, the PPP leadership has started confidence-building dialogue with MQM to take it on board in the federal government, sources told The Nation here on Wednesday. After MQM refusal to join the federal cabinet, close aide of President Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistani High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Wajid Shamsul Hassan, is in constant touch with MQM chief Altaf Hussain and started hectic efforts to obtain latter's nod for joining the coalition government in the centre. Sources added that NRB Chairman Dr Asim, who is a common friend to PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Sindh Governor Dr Ishrtual Ebad, has also accelerated his efforts to convince MQM leadership to join the federal cabinet. Meanwhile, President Asif Zardari has directed Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to withdraw 10 election petitions filed against MQM by the PPP candidates, sources disclosed. They said that after starting negotiations with MQM, President Asif Ali Zardari summoned Syed Qaim Ali Shah and senior minister Pir Mazharul Haq to address the MQM's complaints in Sindh. It will be worth mentioning here that PPP candidates Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Faisal Abedi, Abdullah Baloch, Riaz Lund, Habib Memon, Najmi Alam, Abdul Hakim Baloch, Habib Jan, Shabbir Qureshi, Rafiq Baloch and Liaquat Ali had filed petitions after 18th February in the election tribunal challenging results declared by CEC in their constituencies.
