LAHORE - Lahore Waste Management Company has chalked out a comprehensive action plan to keep the City clean during Eid days. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Managing Director LWMC Wasim Ajmal said that nine points for sale of sacrificial animals were located far from City centre that would help improving sanitation situation besides avoiding traffic jams. He said at these spots extra containers have been placed for dumping of waste and dedicated employees are deputed there to keep the designated animals markets clean. Also, collection of animal waste will be carried out by sanitary workers in every union council. The cleanliness campaign will continue in all residential and commercial areas till the conclusion of Eid; we aim to create a shinning Lahore, he added. According to him, the sanitary workers will shift the waste to SWM containers, which are placed in large numbers in the City. For the purpose of animal waste transportation from residential and commercial areas, 600 SWM vehicles would be engaged and in addition to that 225 more pick-ups would be hired on the first and second day of the Eid and 125 on the third day. Also, holidays of all sanitary workers (7,000) has been cancelled during Eidul Azha, who will work round-the-clock to keep the City clean. He said in order to execute the operations effectively, the department needs coordination and cooperation from the public as well. He said public awareness campaign and messages on proper disposal of waste will be carried out in the following forms: distribution of 150,000 waste collection bags; circulation of pamphlets among people; advertisements in both print and electronic media; announcement in mosques; and awareness massage banners on vehicles. He said the concerned officials have been assigned to monitor the overall activities and performance. Also, at all union councils and animal selling spots, complaint cells have been set up, which will attend to the complaints round-the-clock. He assured the people of Lahore that a prompt action would take on the complaints received.
