ISLAMABAD - Interior Secretary has submitted a report intimating progress in pursuance of the meeting held with Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry in chair on September 18 at Supreme Court building Islamabad to review the security arrangements for superior judiciary and advocates in different parts of the country. The meeting had found the security of lawyers insufficient particularly in respect of the cases of Sardar Khan from KPK, Raja Riaz and Sardar Zulfiqar from Karachi, Mohammad Zaman Marri, Wilayat Hussain and Munir Ahmed Mirwani (reported missing and no recovery effected yet) from Balochistan. Similarly, the incident faced by the son-in-law of Justice Asad Munir of Lahore High Court has not been dealt-with properly. Regarding the murder of Sardar Zulfiqar Advocate it has been intimated that during the course of investigation, two persons namely Mansoor alias Lara s/o Abdul Ghaffar and Haider Ali s/o Ali Muhammad have been arrested. They disclosed that they committed the murder of Sardar Zulfiqar after getting Rs200,000 from a man Aftab alias Sultan through Nadeem, who had some enmity with deceased advocate. After investigation, the case was challaned in the Court of law vide charge sheet No. 280/2010 dated 21.10.2010 for trial. With regard to the murder of Raja Muhammad Riaz Advocate, it has now further been pointed out that criminals involved in four other murder cases have also been interrogated about involvement in the murder case but no clue could be found so far and further that the said persons were still being interrogated. Similarly, three persons namely Niaz Muhammad, Asif Khan and Wasif Shah arrested in various cases were also interrogated. In the end it was intimated that investigation was underway. Regarding the progress report of the murder of Walayat Hussain Advocate, it was submitted that on October 1, 2009 one Imdad Hussain, resident of Alamadr Road, Quetta reported at Police Station City that unknown terrorists had killed his brother Advocate Walayat Hussain in firing at Kasi Road near Zhob Plaza Quetta and FIR No. 186/2009 was accordingly registered. It has been stated that after investigation, one Hafiz Muhammad Usman alias Abbas was arrested. An interim challan No. 141/2009 has been sent to ATC Quetta and the matter is in progress while accused Usman Saifullah and Wazeer alias Hakeem nominated in the case are absconding. It has been informed that a team comprising DIG, CCPO, SP, two DSPs and two SIs under supervision of DIG has been constituted. The team is holding meetings and making efforts for arrest of the culprits. Regarding the progress of murder case of Zaman Marri Advocate in Quetta, it was told that the case was reportedly sub-judice (suo moto case) before High Court of Balochistan and on August 27, 2010, the High Court had directed PPO Quetta to designate a senior officer to investigate the matter who should be not less in rank than an SP. Accordingly SP City has been deputed. Giving facts of the case, it has been informed that on September 6, 2010, one Hazar Khan, resident of Quetta reported at PS Mastung that dead body of his real brother Zaman Marri, who disappeared on August 18, 2010 from Jinnah Road, has been recovered from Pashkaram Farm District Mastung and that some unknown persons had killed him. It was further learnt that an FIR No. 71/2010 was accordingly registered. A team comprising SP, DSP, IP/IR and SI/SHO under the supervision of Regional Police Officer, Khuzdar has been constituted. During the investigation, it has transpired that death was caused due to gun shot which resulted in head injury and severe bleeding. It has been intimated that efforts are being made to arrest the unknown accused and further action will be reported accordingly.
