The first meeting of Judicial Commission constituted for the appointment of judges to the higher judiciary, came to an end today here in Islamabad, report said Saturday. The meeting approved rule and regulations of the Commission and also decided that Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) would be authorized to appoint judges at the apex court, federal Shariat Court and chief justices at the High Courts. Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry presided over this JC meeting held in camera at apex court premises. Chief Justices of Federal Shariat Court and High Courts, federal and provincial law ministers, Attorney General, provincial Attorney Generals and Bar Councils representatives attended the meeting. The Commission was set up under Eighteenth Amendment of the Constitution.
