LAHORE - Jamaat-e-Islami on Friday organised countrywide demonstrations to protest against raise in POL prices, electricity tariff and the basic necessities of life. On the appeal of JI chief Syed Munawar Hasan, demonstrations and rallies were staged in major cities including Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Sialkot. Central and local leaders of the JI addressing the rallies condemned the latest raise in prices and other anti-people steps of the rulers and demanded immediate relief. Syed Munawar Hasan, while addressing the Friday congregation at Mansoora mosque, said the masses should realise that the people they had voted for in the 18th February elections were their enemies which was evident from the government policies and day-to-day increase in electricity tariff, POL prices and other necessities of life. He said if the masses voted for criminals and thieves, they should not expect any good from them. He said that Pervez Musharraf, the biggest villain, was leading a peaceful life in five-star hotel while the present rulers were also filling their coffers. Promotion Higher Education Department, Government of Punjab has promoted Abida Hafeez, lecturer, Govt Kulliyat-ul-Banat College (BS-17) to Assistant Professor (BS-18) at the same college. Likewise, Abida Anwar, lecturer, Jamia Nusrat College Chiniot and Parveen Rashid, lecturer, Govt College for Women, Jhang are also promoted as Assistant Professor on the recommendations of Departmental Promotion Committee against reference No SO (CE-IV) 26-103/06(136).
