Meeting reviews law, order situation in province

LAHORE - Inspector General of Punjab Police Tariq Saleem Dogar has directed the officers of Lahore police to take extraordinary safety measures to deal with the present security threats effectively. Adressing a meeting also attended by Addl IG Operations Rafique Hasan, CCPO Lahore Mohammad Aslam Tareen, DIG Operations Lahore Rao Sardar Ali, SSP Investigation Zulfiqar Hameed, Chief Traffic Officer Syed Mobeen Ahmed and all divisional SPs of City, here at CPO on Friday to review in detail the law and order and crime situation in the provincial metropolis, the IG said senior police officers should personally brief the officials down the line and apprise them of possible threats of terrorism, so that the security arrangements could be implemented in letter and spirit. Some important decisions to maintain law and order were also taken in the meeting. CCPO Aslam Tareen briefed the meeting about the arrangements made for maintenance of law and order on the occasion of Eidul Azha and Muharram-ul-Haram. He also threw light on the measures being taken for controlling heinous/street crime in the City. He said that any sort of negligence in discharging security duties would not be tolerated and the divisional SPs will be held responsible in this regard. He directed that no unidentified person should be allowed to participate in the majalis/precessions and modern resources/equipment should be utilised for checking and screening. He also said that special emphasis should be laid on the security and protection of shrines and darbars and regular meetings be held with the managements of mosques and Imambargahs. The IG further maintained that modern investigation techniques should be adopted for detection of the cases of heinous crimes and for this purpose special teams comprising competent and expert investigation officials be constituted.
