The Prices of sacrificial animals for this Eid may go sky high, as people are witnessing their shortage in the city markets. Traders in very small number bring sacrificial animals in Rawalpindi markets from inner Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kacha area of Sindh and Balochistan. The residents of Rawalpindi said that yaks, sheep and goats of different areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa used to be available in the markets but this year a large number of the animals were sent to Southern Punjab. The absence of goats and sheep has resulted in steep rise of the prices of cows and oxen. A resident said that last year he had purchased a cow for seventeen thousand rupees while a cow of the same physique is available for thirty thousand this year. He said that he gave his idea of purchasing sacrificial animal this year due to the high price while goat or sheep is also not available. Many other persons expressed similar views and said that the prices of animals have jumped to twice of the last year and has gone beyond their capacity.
