OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif while giving nod to the proposals for eliminating quackery, which entered the final phase, said that the quacks for earning few pennies are playing with the lives of the people and will not be tolerated. He also directed the authorities concerned to immediately equip the High Dependency Units set up for dengue patients in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Rawalpindi and Multan and submit a report. He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting of emergency committee held with regard to reviewing the dengue situation in the province and measures taken for its eradication on Saturday. Members National and Provincial Assembly, Chief Secretary, secretaries of various departments and experts were present. The meeting deliberated upon various measures for improving the health facilities in provincial metropolis as well as big cities of the province. Addressing the meeting, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that besides increasing the treatment facilities in big hospitals, improving the condition of small hospitals and dispensaries in the cities is utmost essential. The Chief Minister said that a comprehensive programme has been evolved for ensuring presence of consultants and doctors and curative facilities being extended to the patients in the hospitals during Eid-ul-Azha holidays. Elected representatives and administrative secretaries will visit hospitals during holidays and review the measures taken in this regard. He said that provision of medical facilities to the patients suffering from dengue and other diseases uninterruptedly during Eid-ul-Azha holidays is of great importance and instructions have been issued for making necessary arrangements in the hospitals throughout the province for this purpose. He said that besides Lahore, elected representatives and administrative secretaries will also visit hospitals in other districts of the province to review the implementation of these instructions. He said that Additional Chief Secretary, Secretaries of Health and Irrigation will monitor the attendance of doctors and other arrangements in the hospitals and a special control room has been set up in the office of Additional Chief Secretary for this purpose. He directed Secretary Health to ensure provision of necessary equipments in high dependency units of all big cities and submit a report in this regard. He also directed to evolve a comprehensive plan for activating school health programme and added that a detailed briefing should be given to him within next few days in this regard. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister talking to Mayor of Istanbul Kadir Tobpas on telephone extended an invitation to him to inaugurate the gigantic project of solid waste management which Kadir accepted. It is expected that Mayor of Istanbul will visit Lahore at the mid of next month and inaugurate this project. Mayor of Istanbul Kadir Tobpas talking to the Chief Minister assured that he will play his role for early dispatch of machinery to Lahore required for this project. The Chief Minister expressed his condolences with the Mayor of Istanbul over the loss of precious human lives due to earthquake in Turkey.
