Islamabad- The federal government denied today that the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif gave a six-month deadline to eradicate polio from the country.

Media Reports said that a spokesman of the Prime Minister House that during a high-level meeting of the Steering Committee for the Eradication of Polio at the PM Office on Wednesday the prime minister did not give any six-month deadline as reported in the national media.

Instead, the spokesman said, the prime minister ordered that during the November-April, which is considered as a lean period for polio, concerted efforts should be made to control and eradicate the disease. PM Sharif had said that Pakistan was committed to eradicate the deadly polio virus and would fulfill all its international obligations in this regard.
