LAHORE: The Supreme Court Wednesday summoned the Punjab health secretary and Advocate General Punjab on a suo moto notice taken on the deaths of over 200 cardiac patients provided spurious medicine at Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) in 2012.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the case at SC Lahore Registry on Wednesday. The bench expressed concerned over deteriorating conditions of public health facilities.  The bench summoned Punjab Health Secretary along with report regarding the implementation of recommendation given by a judicial commission that held inquiry into the deaths.–Staff Reporter

Efroze Chemicals, A Karachi based,   was the manufacturer of “Isotab”, which caused number of deaths of the cardiac patients who were provided the spurious medicine at PIC. Shadman police had registered a case against the administration of the pharmaceutical company. The court will resume hearing on Nov 07.
