LAHORE: Lawyers Wednesday observed black day in connection with Nov 3 emergency imposed by former military ruler Pervez Musharraf and held protests by wearing black bands.
The lawyers did not appear in the courts, especially in lower courts to condemn Pervez Musharraf for imposing emergency in the country on Nov 03, 2007. The strike call was given by Lahore High Court Bar Association. The lawyers hoisted black flags on bar associations.
In this regard, the LHCBA held a meeting wherein a large number of lawyers took part to condemn the emergency. Bar president Shafqat Mahmood Chohan addressed the meeting and said that the emergency imposed by former military dictator caused serious loss to the country, especially the finance loss.
He said the lawyers’ community strongly condemned him for doing so. The legal fraternity would not let anyone to take over and ruin the system of the country. At the end, the bar approved a condemning resolution. The bar associations also condemned the brutal killing of a senior lawyer of Ferozewala Bar Advocate Rana Salih and his two sons Rana Owais and Rana Shoaib in Sheikhupura district on Ashura. The strike was observed in all lower courts and the lawyers boycotted courts’ proceedings. They demanded the government to arrest the culprits as soon as possible.–Staff Reporter
