rawalpindi/islamabad - The Youm-e-Ashur in memory of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his 72 diehard companions was observed with traditional religious spirit, devotion and respect throughout the country amid tight security.  The day began with Aamal-e-Ashur in mosques. Quaid Millat Jafariya Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi led the Aamal at Ali Masjid Satellite Town.

In Rawalpindi, main Youm-e-Ashur processions were taken out from Imambargah Ashiq Hussain, Teli Mohallah, Imambargah Col Maqbool Hussain and Imambargah Hifazat Ali Shah Bohar Bazaar.

The Ashura processions taken out from different localities of the city culminated peacefully after passing through their traditional routes on Tuesday.  Police made strict security arrangements various processions.

Meanwhile, the Ashura processions taken out from different localities of Capital culminated peacefully after passing through their traditional routes on Tuesday. According to the spokesman of Islamabad Police, strict security arrangements were made for various processions in the areas of Sabzi Mandi, Aabpara, Shalimar, Golra (Shah Allah Dita), Tarnol, Sihala and Secretariat.

He said that special security plan was chalked out for various religious gatherings and duties were assigned to policemen after dividing routes into various beats. He said each beat was supervised by an officer of ASP or inspector rank and strong coordination was maintained to thwart any untoward incident.  

Islamabad police including Rangers and personnel of other law enforcement agencies performed patrolling and security duties and all processions were completely cordoned off through heavy deployment. Metal detectors were used for checking participants of Majalis, processions and high vigilance was maintained by the police officials which helped in peaceful holding of all events in connection with Muharram-ul-Haram.

Following the directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, he said Senior Superintendent of Islamabad Police (Operations) Asmat Ullah Junejo, all SPs, SDPOs, SHOs and other police officials themselves visited the routes of processions and ensured effective coordination among the security personnel performing duties.

INP adds: Despite intelligence reports of possible terrorist attacks on the Muharram processions and Majalis, hundreds of main processions and thousands of Majalis were held peacefully due to extraordinary multi-layer security arrangements made by the provincial governments with the cooperation of federal agencies and not even a single untoward incident took place on Tuesday, the 10th of Muharram. The mourners observed Ashura with religious zeal paying rich tributes to the martyrs of Karbala for the glory of Islam.

The security arrangements were in place since the beginning of Muharram and it was accelerated on 9th and 10th Muharram. Credit also goes to the administration and the police, who held parleys with religious leaders and Ulema of difficult schools of thought to ensure sectarian harmony. The security agencies were particularly on high alert in view of the terrorist attack at Wagah border that claimed more than sixty lives after the flag lowering ceremony.

Tens of thousands of people took part in the Ashura processions across the country Tuesday which culminated at their given destinations. To the satisfaction of the government and those responsible for security, the day passed off peacefully.

Leaders of public opinion, religious leaders and ordinary people also lauded the security forces for their untiring efforts to foil the designs of terrorists and anti Pakistan forces to disturb peace and order on the important religious occasion.
