HAFIZABAD - As many as 2,609 growers owning up to 12.5 acres of land have been registered under the government’s Kissan Package worth Rs100 billion for providing them with interest-free loans.

Under this package, the government would provide agriculture loans of Rs100 billion to 500,000 small farmers in the province without mark-up. Rs25,000 per acre loans would be provided for the farmers for ‘Rabi’ season while Rs40,000 per acre would be given to farmers for ‘Kharif’ season to 500,000 small growers of the province, an officer said.

Talking to farmers, he said that the Kissan Package is a revolutionary step for improving socio-economic condition of farmers and enhancing per acre agricultural yield in the province. He added that special teams were being constituted for visiting village to village to create awareness among growers about Kissan package. He said that the package would prove a milestone to achieve self-reliance in food.

Zero tolerances would be shown against those committing negligence and laxity in this connection, he warned. Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Pindi Bhattian, Nosheen Sarwar has directed officers of review department to hold special seminars at Tehsil and ‘Qanungoi’ level for creating awareness about the package. She also directed that registration process in the Tehsil be improved so that hundred percent registration of small growers could benefit from the package.
