MIRPUR (AJK)/ SHEIKHUPURA/KAMALIA-Five members of a same family, including three women, were killed and nine others sustained multiple injuries when a fell into a deep ravine at Puljora village on Mirpur-Kotli Highway, about 30km from here on Sunday, the police said.

The ill-fated family members were on the way back to forward town of Nikayal in Kotli district after attending funeral of one of their relatives in Gujranwala.

According to police, 14 members of a same onboard a hired Toyota Hi-Ace van, were getting back to Nikayal after attending the last rites of one of their relatives who had died Saturday night in Gujranwala. At Puljora village, the driver lost control of the steering as a result, the vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into deep ditch, leaving five of its passengers dead on the spot. Nine others got injuries, three of them critical,” the police informed. The injured were rushed to Mirpur Divisional Headquarters Hospital where condition of three of them is stated to be critical. Police have booked the van driver and further investigation is in progress. In Sheikhupura, four persons died and four others sustained injuries in separate road accidents in different areas of the district on Sunday.

Rescue sources said that two persons died when a speeding dumper truck ran over a bike on Sargodha Road.

Similarly a person died and another got injured in collision between a trailer and passenger van near Bhikhi area while a motorcyclist died after being hit by a mini-truck in Feroze Wattowan locality.
