LAHORE - Newage lifted the Seasons Canola Polo Cup after defeating Terra Energy by 6½-4 in the final played here at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground on smogy Sunday.

Hat-trick boy Bilal Haye emerged as hero of the day as he not only converted his goals brilliantly but also helped his teammates score significant goals to register title triumph. Faisal Shahzad contributed a brace while Adnan Jalil Azam added one in team’s total tally. From Terra Energy, Frasat Ali Chatha, Ghulam Mustafa Monnoo, Mumtaz Abbas Niazi and Ahmed Bilal Riaz hit one goal each.

Winning team captain Adnan Jalil Azam said: “This polo season has thrill in it right from the beginning and this event has proved to be a very challenging and enthralling event, as all the participating teams were very strong and gave tough time to each other. I am glad that my team also performed exceptionally and succeeded in winning all its matches, especially the final. I hope we will continue to perform well and win maximum number of low and high goal events.”

Guard Group outlasted Diamond Paints 9-4 in the subsidiary final. Taimur Ali Malik played heroic role in side’s success, as he fired fabulous four goals while his teammates Taimur Mawaz Khan hammered a hat-trick and Ali Elahi scored a brace. From the losing side, Mir Huzaifa and M Usman were the scorer who struck twice each.

Lt Gen (r) Sikander Afzal was chief guest at the concluding ceremony while Punjab Planning and Development chairman M Jahanzeb Khan was guest of honour. In the end, both the guests distributed prizes and trophies among the winners. Seasons Canola CEO M Amir, Brand Manager Syed M Raza, Lahore Polo Club president Irfan Ali Hyder, LPC executive committee members Amir Nawaz Tiwana and Saqib Khan Khakwani, secretary Col (r) Shoaib Aftab, players’ families and polo enthusiast were also present on the occasion.
