TOBA TEK SINGH/ GUJRANWALA/OKARA/ HAFIZABAD-Activists of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) took out protest rallies in different cities on Sunday against hike in prices of petroleum products by the government.

In Toba Tek Singh, PPP activists gathered outside press club on Jhang Road where they listened to the speech delivered by PPP district president and former provincial minister for social welfare and women development, Begum Neelum Jabbar Chaudhry. She criticised the government for increasing the prices of diesel oil and lubricants (POL) at a time when they were at decline across the world. She pointed out that increase in POL prices would definitely cause hike in prices of daily-use edibles. She demanded immediate withdrawal of hike in POL rates.

Market Committee chairman Lala Iqbal, PPP Tehsil general secretary Sardar Waheed Gadhi and Mian Zahid Pervaiz also spoke on the occasion.

In Gujranwala, hundreds of PPP activists staged a protest in front of Gujranwala Press Club against increase in POL prices on Sunday. Addressing the protestors, local PPP leaders - Rao Ikram Ali Khan and Sagheer Butt said the incumbent government has failed to overcome the crises. They held rulers responsible for bringing an unbearable loss to the economy of the country. They feared that frequent increase in prices of petroleum products would badly affect the industry. They said people are faced with inflation while the rulers are making money through unlawful means in the name of development projects. They demanded the government withdraw from its decision of hike in POL prices.

In Okara, scores of PPP activists staged a protest demonstration against the government in front of Okara Press Club against hike in rates of petroleum products. The activists were led by PPP district president Ch Sajjadul Hassan, city president Alam Sher Khan Lodhi, district information secretary Shahid Saleem Nonari and others. They raised slogans against the government for, “what they called” unjust increase in POL prices.

In Hafizabad, the PPP activists took out a rally as a protest against increase in prices of the petroleum products. Led by PPP district president Malik Wazir, the activists raised slogans against the government for its anti-public policies and called upon the government to withdraw the arbitrary increase in the petroleum prices. They later staged a sit-in as protest in front of Hafizabad Press Club. On the other hand, the growers also protested against increase in prices of POL and called upon the government to take pity on the growers and assist them to maximise food production. Addressing a press conference, Pakistan Kisan Board central vice president Amanullah Chattha said that wheat production would be badly affected due to increase in oil prices. It would skyrocket the prices of fruits and vegetables, he added. He demanded the immediate withdrawal of the government.
