KARACHI - Leader of Sunni Action Committee - a sister organisation of defunct Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) - Maulana Muhammad Ameen was gunned down here on Tuesday evening. According to details, Mau-lana Muhammad Ameen was on his way to Jamia Binoria after having a meeting with some of his friends at Pak Colony when armed men on two motorbikes intercepted his vehicle, bearing registration number BD-6165, near Norus Chowk and started indiscriminate firing. Assailants managed to escape while wounded Maulana, who sustained five bullets, was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. The news spread like jungle fire and a large number of students of different seminaries reached hospital. Police said that Maulana Ameen hailed from Sahiwal and was performing his duties in Jamia Binoria as Sheikh-ul-Hadith and Jamia Noor. The deceased was a former president of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan and was now leading Sunni Action Committee (SAC). He was father of eight children and was released from jail two months ago. It is pertinent to mention here that as many as 23 activists and leaders affiliated with SSP have been killed during the last month. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah have expressed deep grief over his killing. Qaim issued directives to CCPO Karachi to submit a report in this regard and take steps for arrest of culprits. He prayed for the departed soul and expressed condolence with the bereaved family.
