MUMBAI - Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi is all set to seek the permission of the President Asif Ali Zardari to announce his intention of returning to the national team, it is learnt here. According to the sources in Pakistan, Afridi was scheduled to meet Zardari, PCB Patron, on Monday night. The meeting, which was arranged by Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) party leader, however, could not take place. This was confirmed by Mushahid Hussain Sayed, the General Secretary of the party. The new date for the meeting is yet to be finalised", the GS said exclusively over telephone from Islamabad. Whenever the meeting takes place, Afridi is likely to revoke his retirement immediately thereafter. When approached in Pakistan, Afridi did confirm, "I am trying to meet the president. I am yet to get his appointment". He didn't disclose the reason for his meeting with the president. The PCB chairman Ijaz Butt's three-year tenure will be over on 8th October and Afridi is keen to returnunder new management. He was not comfortable with coach Waqar Younis, and as Waqar is no more coaching the team and the PCB chairman unlikely to get extension, Afridi's return should not surprise. The team for the Test series against Sri Lanka in UAE has already been announced.
