RAWALPINDI  – Residents of Muslim Colony in Arya Mohallah have demanded Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to provide clean drinking water as they were receiving contaminated water.

Owing to consumption of toxic water, the residents of Muslim Colony in Arya Mohallah were been suffering stomach diseases. Residents said that water being supplied to their homes by WASA got mixed with sewerage water due to leakage of water pipeline.

Malik Tariq, Safeer Hussian, Agha Nadeem and many others said they feared stomach diseases due to toxic water and demanded WASA officials to take samples of toxic water and ensure provision of clean drinking water.   When contacted, Managing Director WASA Raja Shoukat Mehmood said that he has issued directions to take samples of water for testing and provision of clean drinking water will be ensured.

Meanwhile, non-carpeting of street No 2 of Dhok Syedan has added to the miseries of the residents.

Width of this street is already minimal i.e. only four feet. This street turns into pond of stinking water even if light shower hits it. This is all due to heavy digging in therein.

Board has done digging work in the street for laying water supply line but it was not filled, said a group of residents.

Due to flooding stinking water in the street it has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and dengue fever sword continues to hang overheads, said Mukhtaran Bibi a housewife. We could not go to mosques to offer prayers as filth sticks to our clothes whenever we try to pass through the street, said a group of faithful.

Residents demanded immediate carpeting of the street otherwise they will be forced to hold protest demonstrations.
