LAHORE – Pakistan National 7s Rugby team will for Mumbai on October 11 to take part in HSBC Asian Sevens Rugby Series which will start from October 13 to 14.

There are 16 teams in the event including Afghanistan, which will mark its first appearance on the HSBC Asian Sevens Series. Pakistan are in Group C with Taipei, Korea, Kazakhstan, while Group A consists Japan, Philippines, Singapore and Afghanistan; Group B comprises China, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Iran while Group D has Hong Kong, Thailand, UAE and India. Pakistan rugby’s team camp is in progress here at DHA Rugby Stadium where the team is practicing under development coach Shakeel Ahmad and Haji Anwar.  Coach Shakeel Ahmad said: “Pakistan are ready for the event. All the teams are high ranked teams for us. But I hope our team will play well and get some good experience.” He said that the rankings from the Borneo, Shanghai and Mumbai events would determine the seeding for the Singapore Sevens. The top three finalists from the event would qualify for Rugby World Cup Sevens 2013 in Moscow.
