Dubai - Pakistan Cricket Board has gone through real turmoil in last few years and the aftereffects are quite clear.
The biggest loss suffered by Pakistan cricket is in the form of suspension of Saeed Ajmal and many other bowlers at domestic level on account of suspect actions. Ajmal’s suspension has put the PCB in a tricky situation because they have no proper replacement for their match-winner in the last decade. Nobody knows Pakistan cricket better than former Pakistan captain and opener Mudassar Nazar. Mudassar, now a head coach at the ICC Global Cricket Academy, while talking to Khaleej Times said: “We should blame our system for this debacle.
“I bought bio-mechanic machine during the first tenure of Shahryar Khan as PCB chief. It was the right step at the right time. “Since I played most of my cricket in England and Australia, I knew where the game was heading for. After getting the equipment I talked to a bio-mechanic expert in Australia who agreed to work with us. We also contacted four universities in Pakistan including Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).
Everything was in place but the PCB head was replaced. “Now Naseem Ashraf took the charge and again I represented my paper to him and he agreed. We were about to start the work and again the PCB got a new head in the form of Ijaz Ahmed Butt.”
Butt, a former Test player, proved a nuisance for Pakistan cricket by mismanaging the board affairs. “After Butt’s appointment I resigned and came to Dubai to join the ICC Global Cricket Academy. Some of the advisers (former Test players) to Butt were not in favour of this project and they took the matter to Pakistan Senate (Upper House of Parliament).
“They told the Senate that there were irregularities in purchasing this equipment and in fact the PCB has no money to finance it. So it was shelved and we are facing the consequences. “At the moment Pakistan has got spinners who idolized Ajmal as their hero. They want to bowl doosra like him but they have not been groomed properly.
“Because of frequent changes in PCB nothing has been done with continuity and the cycle has been broken many times. “Now we have to take a fresh guard but damage has already been done. I hope common sense will prevail and under the guidance of Shahryar the issues faced by Pakistan cricket will be taken care of.”
