LAHORE - Punjab Cabinet Committee Chairman on Muharram Rana Sanaullah yesterday said that indiscriminate action would be taken against those involved in fanning sectarian issues in the province.

“Maintenance of peace and public order during Muharram is priority agenda of the government,” he added.

Talking to a delegation of Ulema, Mushaikh and Shia leaders in his office, he said, providing security to law abiding citizens was the utmost responsibility of the government and in this regard police and other law enforcement agencies had been directed to make the best foolproof security arrangements during the month of Muharram.

He said, as the country was confronted with terrorism, miscreants could take advantage and try to create untoward situation during Muharram, they would have to remain extra vigilant to counter them.

Sana said, there was a complete ban on using loudspeakers. He said, elements found guilty of wall-chalking, making provocative speeches and spreading religious hatred would be dealt under Terrorism Act.

He said, on the direction of the Chief Minister, establishment of control rooms would be ensured ahead of Muharram at district and divisional level for monitoring the province.

The minister urged Ulema, Mushaikh especially Zakireen to abide by designated code of conduct and contribute for matchless integrity and cohesion among all sects of Muslims during Muharram ul Harram.
