LAHORE - Special vehicle recovery unit of CIA has arrested 11 members of two gangs of car and motorcycle thieves and recovered 21 stolen cars, 36 motorcycles and five rickshaws worth more than Rs2.5 crore.

This was informed by SSP CIA Umar Virk while addressing a press conference at Police Line Qila Gujar Singh. The SSP said that stolen vehicles and cars are used in crimes including terrorism due to which on the instructions of CCPO Lahore Capt (r) Muhammad Amin Wains, special unit of CIA has been set up to check the incidents of car and motorcycle lifting.

He said that the unit will set up checkpoints at 50 different places in the city. He said that the unit has started operation during which 21 cars, 36 motorcycles and five auto rickshaws worth Rs 2.5 crore have been recovered which is a proof of its efficiency. He said that this unit will also conduct raids in different provinces for the recovery of stolen cars sent to other provinces and use modern technology as well as resources for breaking the network of car and motorcycle lifters.

Umar Virk also handed over the recovered cars and motorcycles to their owners. Giving details of arrest of Zubairi car lifter gang and Lahori motorcycle lifter gang, SSP CIA said that police team headed by DSP CIA Civil Lines Saleem Mukhtar Butt in the light of information received from the complainant and secret sources arrested 11 members of Zubairi car and Lahori motorcycle lifter gangs including Zubair Ikram alias Zubari, Ijaz Ahmed alias Doctor, Muhammad Sabir, Tasawar alias Chikhu, Mohsan alias Mani, Abbas alias Lahoria, Naeem, Muhammad Imran, Shahid Ali, Saeed Agha and Baber Ali and recovered 21 cars, 36 motorcycles and five auto rickshaws worth crores of rupees. These vehicles have been lifted from Samanabad, Iqbal Town, Old Anarkali, Shera Kot, Defence A, Johar Town, Garden Town, Gulshan-e-Ravi, Ghalib Markeet, Factory Area, Mugal Pura, Lower Mall, Shalimar, Baghbanpura, Harbanspura, and Gulberg.

The criminals used to lift cars and motorcycles through master keys and sell them in tribal area. They also got the engine and chassis number of the vehicles tampered and made bogus documents and sold them in Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Sialkot.

Police have also recovered illegal weapons from criminals. The ring leader of the gang Zubair Ikram alias Zubairi and Ijaz alias Doctor are professional thieves. Umar Virk said that arrest of these criminals will reduce the incidents of car and motorcycle lifting in Lahore.
