SEA-ME-WE 5 consortium
ISLAMABAD (PR): Transworld Associates Private Limited (TWA) is the exclusive participant from Pakistan in the SEA-ME-WE 5 consortium. TWA has now completed the deployment of SEA-ME-WE 5 at its landing station in Karachi. As the information super highway, the SEA-ME-WE 5 will helpmeet Pakistan’s high speed connectivity demands based on its rapidly expanding IT presence globally. The state-of-the-art SEA-ME-WE 5 will introduce the ground-breaking concept of end to end connection to open and neutral Points of Presence (PoP’s) both in Europe and Asia. With 24Tbps of capacity SEA-ME-WE 5 will become the intercontinental super highway releasing the pressure on the already highly utilized cables between Europe and Asia. USAID presents motorbikes to dairy sector technicians
LAHORE (PR): Alyson McFarland, United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Provincial Director for Punjab, joined the former federal finance minister and chairman Dairy and Rural Development Foundation(DRDF) Dr Salman Shah in distributing motorbikes to 43 dairy sector technicians at the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences in Lahore. The newly trained Artificial Insemination Technicians received motorbikes on a cost-share basis under USAID’s Dairy Project, enabling the technicians to provide local farmers in outlying villages with timely and affordable breed improvement services. “As one of the world’s largest milk producers, Pakistan’s dairy sector offers tremendous potential for the nation’s economic growth. Today’s graduates will be pivotal in shaping the future of this sector as well as the country as a whole,” said Ms McFarland. Vice Chancellor University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Professor Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha said that UVAS is collaborating with the USAID’s Dairy Project to transform it technology and knowledge to small holder dairy farmers and rural women for the development of dairy and livestock sector of the Pakistan.
USAID’s five-year, $21 million Dairy Project has impacted the lives of over 36,000 small dairy farmers by improving livestock productivity and increasing their income by at least 10 percent. The project has made great advances in fostering sustainable dairy farm practices, resulting in a 17 percent increase in the average milk yield and generating more than 8,000 employment opportunities for rural men and women.

Orientation seminar held

LAHORE (PR): An orientation seminar on “Ottoman History, New Turkey and Turkish Language”, arranged by Department of Humanities under Chairperson Alia Saleem Naushahi in collaboration with Quality Enhancement Cell of University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, was held at Chemical Engineering Seminar Hall of main campus. Chairman Rumi Fourm Pakistan Mesut Kacmaz was resource person of the event. Vice Chancellor UET Lahore Prof Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid was also present in the seminar. Mesut Kacmaz, Chairman Rumi Forum Pakistan, said, “Pakistan is second home for Turkish people.
So the relations between both countries must be enhanced in all mutual areas of interest.” Mesut said that in more than hundred countries of the world Turkish language is being taught by different institutes as a foreign language. Meanwhile Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid said UET is seeking collaboration with Turkish technical universities in science and technology. At the end, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid presented crest to Mesut Kacmaz.

BoM members asked to visit Tevta institutes
LAHORE (PR): Active participation of District Board of Management is necessary for the promotion of technical education and vocational training system across Punjab. Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) has restructured representation of local business community in various District Board of Management (BoM). This was stated by Chairperson TEVTA Irfan Qaiser Sheikh while addressing the officers Operations Department to review the progress of District Board of Management here at TEVTA Secretariat. Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said that new demand driven short courses have been introduced with the consultation of BoM. TEVTA is continuing effective communication with the members of BoM for their operative role in institutes’ management. BoM members have been directed to also visit TEVTA institutes and submit their proposals for further improvement of TEVTA Institutes. Chairperson TEVTA further said that provision of jobs for skilled manpower is the top priority of TEVTA. We have also involved the District Board of Management to take part for arranging job opportunities for TEVTA Pass-Outs at the concerned districts. Monthly progress of all District Offices across the province of the Punjab is also being monitored. District Manager have also been directed to arrange seminars in which District Board of Management (BoM) and prominent industrialists may be invited so that it may be also be effective for jobs of our Pass-Outs.
