TOBA TEK SINGH-A PML-N lawmaker criticised National Highway Authority (NHA) for closing a thoroughfare near Pirmahal during the construction of Peshawar-Lahore-Karachi Motorway.

Addressing a press conference in District Press Club, MPA Mian Rafiq said that a 65-feet wide 3.5km road was in the use of farmers of the area for the last several decades for transportation of their produce. The road, he said, also connects Pirmahal-Faisalabad Road at Chak Kohal Kalan to Pirmahal-Shorkot Cantonment Road at Chak 320-GB canal bridge.

He claimed that he had suggested to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in a letter that the 3.5km road should be constructed to connect both the Pirmahal-Faisalabad and Pirmahal-Shorkot Cantonment roads to facilitate cultivators and other citizens as Pirmahal city’s ring road.

He hoped that the CM will approve the funds for the purpose. He demanded the NHA should reopen the road and construct an overhead bridge on the road. He warned that if his demand was not accepted, he will be forced to lead a protest of the farmers against NHA.
