11 shot dead in Karachi



KARACHI – The current spell of violence in the City claimed 11 more lives here on Wednesday.
An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and a tailor were gunned down in an act of target killing at North Karachi area within the limits of Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police station.
The deceased cop was identified as 45-year-old Abdul Ghaffor, son of Abdul Raheem and the Tailor as Hussain Buksh, 42. Police said that the incident took place when at least four armed men riding two motorcycles opened indiscriminate firing on the victims when they were sitting at the tailoring shop. As a result, ASI Ghaffor died on the spot and Buksh succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police said that both the victims were shot multiple times before the assailants managed to escape. The deceased ASI was posted at Manghopir police station and both the victims lived in the same area. The officer suspected that the personal enmity could be a motive behind the murder.
An elderly man identified as Syed Mukhtar accompanied by his son, namely Syed Bakir, were gunned down in an act of target killing near Old Sabzi Mandi area within the limits of PIB Colony police station. Police said that deceased Mukhtiar was the general secretary at a private advertising company and also served as Trustee of Islamic Research Centre. The victims were returning to their home situated at Nazimabad No 7 when unidentified culprits targeted them.
He said that Mukhtar had died on the spot while his son was taken to a private hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. Police suspect that the motive behind the murders was sectarian.
Similarly, a 50-year-old man identified as Gul Sarfaraz and his son, namely Gul Nawaz, were gunned down near their home near Khyber Chowk, Ittehad Town within the limits of Mochko police station. Police said that the victims belonged to the Afridi family and had personal enmity with the Mehsud tribe. SHO Imtiaz Mir said that at least five armed men on two motorcycles shot and killed the victims shortly after they came out of their homes to go to somewhere.
The culprits would be nominated in the FIR as family of the victims approached them to nominate the culprits belonging to the Mehsud tribe.
In Maripur police remit, a young man identified as Kashif, 24, son of Abdullah was gunned down in an act of target killing at Naval Colony. SHO Shafiq Tanoli said that the deceased was the tailor by profession and lived in the same area. The police officer while quoting the victim’s mother said that victim’s friend, namely Saleem shot and killed him over a monetary dispute and escaped.
Another man identified as 45-year-old Hussain Ahmed, son of Abdul Shakoor was gunned down outside his home in Korangi locality within the limits of Zaman Town police station. Police said that the deceased was handicapped and lost his life when he tried to save his son who was fighting with the accused, namely Saeed outside the home. Police officials said that the deceased was shot once in his chest and died during treatment at Zaman Town police station.
Police have found the body of the young man within the limits of Napier police station. The body was moved to Civil Hospital, Karachi where the victim was identified as Sheikh Qasim, 28, son of Khalid. Police said that the deceased lived in Korangi area and was kidnapped by unidentified persons on Tuesday when he left the home for some work.
Culprits tortured him and shot once on his head. His hands and legs were also tied with the ropes. Police said that the victim had no affiliation with any political or religious party while the motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained.
Another body of teenager was found from Qayyumabad area within the limits of Korangi Industrial Area police station. Police officials said that the victim was strangled to death and the initial investigation suggests that the unidentified persons threw his body from the running car. The body was shifted to the morgue, Sohrab Goth for identification after medico-legal formalities completed at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Baghdadi police found a shot dead body near from the Ghosia Mobile Mall. Police said that man was abducted and tortured before he was shot once on his head and his body was thrown at the said place.
The body was shifted to morgue for identification after autopsy at Civil Hospital Karachi. Police have registered an FIR of murder against unknown assailants.
