SIALKOT –The Defence Day of Pakistan will be observed with traditional zeal, enthusiasm on Thursday with a renewed pledge to sacrifice lives for the prestige of the country and defending the motherland.Like other parts of the country, in Sialkot, the land of the martyrs and Ghaazis, the Day will dawn with the special prayers in mosques for national solidarity, integrity, prosperity and peace.The main “Hilal-e-Istaqlal” hoisting ceremony would be held at historical Sialkot Fort under the auspices of Sialkot Tehsil Municipal Administration, where, the people and Pak Army personnel will hoist the Hilal-e-Istaqlal. It was conferred upon the people who wrote a golden history of bravery by sacrificing their lives for the motherland near Sialkot during the Sep 06, 1965 Indo-Pak War. The common public and senior Pakistan Army officials will salute the Shuhada, besides laying floral wreaths at their graves in Sialkot, Daska, Chawinda and-Pasrur during the special ceremonies to be held today.Senior Pak Army officials said, “The Defence Day of Pakistan reminds us of the indomitable courage and unmatched sacrifices of our gallant men proved the world that the defence of Pakistan was unassailable. September 6 stands out as a symbol of our enduring display of unity, Faith and Discipline as a nation.” They added that compared to 1965, Pakistan today has emerged as more resilient and vibrant country with strong conventional and non-conventional power. The day reminds us of determination, selflessness and sacrifices of our Armed Forces, which they had rendered for the Defence of Pakistan, they added.Local social, political, religious and civil society members would also take out a rally from Sialkot city’s congested Allama Iqbal Chowk to Chawinda, besides laying floral wreathes on the graves of the martyrs in local graveyard. They will also salute them with cannons. Chawinda has a great significant role in 1965 War, as it is called a graveyard of the invading tanks of the enemy (India).On the other hand, the high ranking Pak Army officials will also lay floral wreaths at the graves of martyrs in Daska, Sambrial, Uggoki, Pasrur, Sialkot Cantt and surrounding areas and saluted them with cannons.
