Defence Day today


LAHORE - The 47th Defence Day will be celebrated across the country with a renewed pledge, commitment and resolve to defend the ideological and geographical boundaries of the country against any aggression.
Floral wreaths will be laid at the memorials of all the Nishan-e-Haider recipients while a guard mounting ceremony will take place at the Mazaar-i-Quaid in which a contingent of cadets will take over guard duties at the mausoleum of the Quaid.
The day long celebrations will start with Quran Khawani, following special prayers for the sovereignty, solidarity and integrity of Pakistan. The national flag will be hoisted at all Formation Headquarters, units and Army installations. Tributes will be paid to the valiant soldiers, who had laid down their lives.
A change of the guard ceremony will be held at the Mazar-i-Iqbal to pay homage to the national poet.
The day is observed every year to mark the successful thwarting of the Indian hegemonistic designs, and in the memory of the martyred who sacrificed their lives during the Pakistan-India War of 1965. Special prayers for the peace, progress and prosperity of country in an ambiance of patriotic passion would also be offered besides various functions to commemorate the day.
The Armed Forces will carry out functions at all tiers, where officers and jawans will remember the brave men who brought glory to the institutions, while the nation still consider their sacrifices as an epitome of selfless service to the nation.
This day will make the Pakistanis recall supreme sacrifices of the Armed Forces, and would be proud of the officers and jawans, who became an impregnable wall to the enemy.
